JFF outlines aims of Boyz fixtures
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) says that the Reggae Boyz’s next six fixtures will allow for a better understanding of the strategies for the national men’s football programme.
These strategies, it says, will be based on short-, medium-, and longterm objectives.
“Two international friendlies in Spain against Catalonia on May 25, and the Basque Country on May 27, will offer opportunities to look at new players, mainly from Europe,” the JFF said in a press release yesterday. “These new players, depending on the assessment of the technical staff, could play a role in short-, medium- or long- term plans, and meets the objective of incorporating new players in our roster as early as possible in a new four-year cycle.”
The Reggae Boyz then begin their Concacaf Nations League campaign, where they’re drawn in the same group as Suriname, who they face away on June 7, then at home three days later. Also in that group is Mexico, who they play in Kingston on June 14. JFF describes these games as crucial. [These games] will definitely be aimed at maximising points for the 2023 Gold Cup qualification, but also continuing to build on style of play, FIFA ranking, team chemistry, and a winning mentality,” the body said.
Before facing Mexico, Jamaica will travel to Uruguay for an international friendly on June 11. This, the JFF says, will allow the team to prepare for Mexico.
“In addition to assisting with Nations League preparation, based on the quality of that opposition, this will open opportunities for outstanding [Jamaica] Premier League players, offering them growth through international football,” the JFF said. “Undoubtedly, it will be an exciting two months with the eyes of the technical staff focused fully on the future.”
