Cops use fingerprint technology to nab suspect

-

AManchester man is now facing firearm and ammunition charges as forensic evidence allegedly connects him to a May 2020 shooting incident on the Winston Jones Highway.

He has been identified as Shane Johnson, 34, of Cottage Pen. Reports from the Mandeville police are that about 11:20 a.m., a team of officers were on operation in the area when they went in pursuit of a Toyota Axio motor car with armed men aboard. Upon the approach of the police, the men reportedly opened fire at the lawmen. The gunfire was returned and the men abandoned the motor car and fled in the area on foot. One firearm was found in the motor car during a subsequent search.

An investigation was launched and with technological aid, Johnson was identified when fingerprints from the scene were recognised by the force’s fingerprint identification system. He was arrested and charged last Friday with shooting with intent, illegal possession of firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and assault at common-law following a question-and-answer interview in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is not yet finalised.
