Ambusley returns for MoBay United
Montego Bay United (MBU) assistant coach Dwayne Ambusley came out of retirement to inspire his team to a 2-2 draw with Arnett Gardens in their Jamaica Premier League match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall, St James, yesterday.
MBU started the game on the front foot creating a number of opportunities but failing to find the back of the net. The home fans could not hold back their frustration when Kristoff Murray missed a chance that saw him one on one with the goalkeeper in the 19th minute.
Arnett took the lead against the run of play with Marlon Allen breaking through the MBU defence to find the bottom far corner right of the goalkeeper.
MBU found the equaliser from the penalty spot in the 39th minute through Nevaun Turner, to take the score 1-1 at the break.
The visitors reclaimed the lead eight minutes into the second half when Gerald Neil ghosted in at the far post to rifle the ball inside the roof of the goal.
Murray found the equaliser for MBU four minutes later, slotting the ball into an empty goal, a rebound from an out-rushing goalkeeper’s save. This is the second time MBU is scoring two goals in a game since the start of the season.
Ambusley, who dedicated his Mother’s Day performance to his late grandmother, said the team needed him so he had to just go out there.
“I have to dedicate this performance to my grandmother on Mother’s Day,” he told STAR Sports. “Although she is deceased, I remember she always told me to do my best, and that’s what I did.
“The guys really needed some upliftment and they asked me to come in to fill a spot due to injuries. I was reluctant at first, but they begged me that much so I did.”
Ambusley, 41, said he had little preparation for the game.
“It was just a week and one squad match,” he said. “However, I always keep my body in shape and when I see how the league is playing, I knew it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t do. I didn’t know I could last the 90 minutes, but I did and I don’t even feel it that much. But then again, tomorrow I may not be able to get out of bed!”
