Destitute Clarendon man seeking love and a better life
Omar Samuda of Water Works, Frankfield, Clarendon, has one wish, to get a job so that he can eke out a better living for himself.
Samuda, who goes by the nickname Red Rat, lives in a rundown shack by a riverside. He knows that it is not ideal, but for now, that’s all he can do. He said that in the community of Andrew
Hill, from where he hails, there are few opportunities to get odd jobs. So he takes his chances by residing in the shack that he built himself. Samuda showed THE STAR bruises that he said he got after being attacked recently by someone he said that he knows. But he is trying not to dwell on his injuries.
“Right now mi waan tings like bleach fi bleach out di house. People all a call me fi gi mi work but through mi mash up a caan do it,” he said. Samuda, who said he is sometimes fed up with the state of his life, longs to enjoy little pleasures like riding a bicycle and visiting relatives. He said that since the beating, he is not as mobile as before but still boasts that he can do any form of labour, including cleaning hog pens and fowl coops or carrying water. He said that he can also drive but needs money to help secure a driver’s licence.

Samuda is also suffering heartbreak as he said that his partner of eight years, who was sharing the shack with him up until January, walked out on the relationship. Stating he has no intention of trying to win her back, he expressed the desire to find another partner, even one who is over 70. He said that he has been with older women before, and that age is not an issue.
“Mi did have a woman olda dan mi madda and she dead cause thru mi know how fi deal wid people,” he said.
Samuda recalled that on the day they met.
“One a di day mi ride go a di place weh mi a get di work and di woman call me in and say ‘How you a pass suh? Mi love you enuh bwoy’,” he recalled. He said that after she told him that she wanted “some of what him have”, he yielded to her. Now he simply wants a good woman as he is a hard-working man. Samuda pleaded with potential employers to take a chance on him and said that anyone in the community can vouch for his honesty.
“It rough dung a Frankfield but mi nah tief nutten fi nobody either. Mi a hold mi faith inna God. Yea a it mek yuh see mi tan suh,” he shared.
