I regret GETTING MARRIED FOR A GREEN CARD

-

I have to leave this woman; she is really not my type.

Dear Pastor,

I am a Jamaican man. I came to America and fell in love with a woman here. It was not something that I planned. I left my beautiful woman in Jamaica.

This American woman cannot walk in her shoes. But I am with her because I don’t have my papers. She has children, and they walk in and out of the house without saying anything to me. When I spoke to her about it, she said that I should remember that they come from a different culture and that they are grown children. But I expect them to show respect. This woman has been married twice, but I agreed to marry her because of my situation. She does not work. She spends lots of time on the telephone. My heart is not in this marriage.

I have been suffering for three years. My former woman is now in New York and we have been talking every day. My wife does not know that. She is going to be shocked, but I must move on. I have not hidden anything from my children. They are hoping that their mother and I will get back together. I have not been able to save any money, but I am prepared to begin again. I have to leave this woman; she is really not my type.

R.S.

Dear R.S.,

I have seen couples make great blunders in their lives. Some have very good relationships in Jamaica, but thought Jamaica was too slow, so they were willing to try a faster country.

Some succeeded. You never loved this woman, but you married her because you needed a green card. Evidently, she did not love you, either. But you got married out of convenience.

She had her grown children and she expected you to tolerate their behaviour. It is not for me to condemn you. I can only wish you well as you rejoin your former woman. I hope that both of you will forgive each other for the mistakes that you have made. I wish both of you well. Perhaps some people will not agree with my answer, but I know your wife will never make you happy, and what you are seeking above everything is happiness. May God forgive me if I have said anything wrong.
