The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has invested approximately $47 million in improvement works on the Negril Sewage Conveyance System in Westmoreland.

The project, which was officially completed in March 2022, included the procurement and installation of two new pumps, pipe repairs, as well as renovation of the main operations building.

Curtis Thomas, maintenance manager for the NWC’s Western Division, said that two new submersible pumps were installed at the main sewage pumping station that receives sewage from the Negril area.

“Also, we replaced the discharge piping at the Number 5 lift station, which collects sewage from several major hotels and other businesses along the Norman Manley Boulevard,” he stated.

Jeffery Smith, NWC regional manager, touted the success of the project.

“These works are in line with the NWC’s commitment to increasing the efficiency and reliability of its facilities. We are working as a team on improving our wastewater services to the benefit of our customers, and playing our part in protecting the environment,” he stated.
