Blaine not worried about resigning
National senior women’s football team head coach, Vin Blaine, while confirming he will be handing in his resignation soon, revealed he already has options for a new job although that is not his immediate focus.
Blaine took the decision to walk away after 19 players in the Reggae Girlz squad signed a letter to Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts asking that he be replaced on grounds of coaching, communication, and organisation deficiencies. Blaine strongly refuted the claims and was vindicated by the JFF investigations, with the federation declaring there was insufficient evidence to justify the Girlz’s claims.
Blaine coached the Reggae Girlz at all levels for more than a decade before becoming director of football for the JFF from 2014 to 2017, took up Grenada’s post of Technical Director in 2017, then a brief stint as US Virgin Islands coach, before his reappointment as Reggae Girlz head coach in December.
Blaine, who also has experience at the local Premier League level, winning the title once with Harbour View, was coach of Harbour View women’s team for many years.
H says that he will take some time before assessing his future options.
“My resignation is forthcoming but there are some loose ends to tie up regarding my staff and their compensation,” Blaine told STAR Sports.
“I decided to step away from the programme for the good of the programme and that is it.
“I have some options that I will look over when I am ready, but I haven’t looked at them really, so I have not decided as yet.”
Blaine says that many of the players who signed the letter calling for his head, had hoped to reconcile their differences to move on.
“Some girls called me, congratulating me that I am back and they mentioned a meeting for us to discuss the situation,” he said. “But I had already decided that I would resign, so there was no need to meet.
“With all that has taken place, this is being done in the best interest of the team, going forward.”
Blaine was unbeaten in his four matches as coach. He led the Reggae Girlz to four straight victories in Group C of the Concacaf Women’s Championship qualifying, scoring 24 goals and conceding just two.
