Woman says she made up gun story about relative

- TIFFANY TAYLOR STAR Writer

Asenior parish judge requested that a social enquiry report be conducted for a Corporate Area woman who confessed to lying about being assaulted and having a gun pointed in her face by her child’s uncle.

Shanae Garvey pleaded guilty to creating public mischief yesterday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. The court heard that on April 22, Garvey reported to the police that the individual told her that he would ‘lick shot in her head’. She alleged that he placed his hand into his waistband and took out a gun. Upon seeing the gun, she alleged that she ran into a room and the person followed, kicked the door inwards and stood at the door pointing the gun at her. She alleged that five days prior to making the report, the individual kicked her feet causing her to fall. She alleged that the person pulled her hair and punched her in her ear. Garvey’s report led to the person being charged with illegal possession of firearm and assault at common law. But further investigations revealed that her statements were false.

“So you made up all of that, Ma’am? That is what you’re saying to the court?” Senior Parish Judge LoriAnne Cole-Montaque quizzed. “Yes, Ma’am,” Garvey replied.

“That was quite some story,” the judge commented. Garvey told the judge that a previous case in which she was charged with assaulting another female was dismissed.
