-

Singjay Ras Zukes is hoping for summer success with a clutch of new songs. According to the South Florida-based artiste, they are a sign of bigger things to come.

“For 2022, a whole heap a thing Ras Zukes a gwaan with. I’m working on an EP, a mixtape. Don’t have an exact [release] date right now, just promoting more songs so di people can get familiar with Ras Zukes so it can become a brand,” he said. Social Media Hype, Got to Know Yourself and Strive are some of his latest songs.

In March, the Trelawny-born Ras Zukes was one of the acts on ‘Forever Young: Tony Matterhorn’s Birthday Celebrations’, which took place in Richmond, Virginia. He considers being part of an event highlighting the popular sound system selector as a career boost.

“The vibe was very awesome, the setting was professional. Everybody booked for the event was there and the audience, to my knowledge, was very receptive,” he said.

Ras Zukes has done the rounds since his career started on Jamaica’s north coast circuit during the early 1990s. Once he graduated from that scene, he moved to Kingston for greater live music opportunities and began recording in 2003.

The dreadlocked toaster has done songs for highprofile labels like Beres Hammond’s Harmony House and Tad’s International Record. Some of his recent recordings are for his Jah-Zhan-I Records label.
