Big names set for Prefontaine showdown

-

Olympians Elaine Thompson Herah, Shericka Jackson, and Briana Williams are set to run in what is expected to be a competitive 100m against Sha’Carri Richardson and Dina Asher-Smith at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.

The line- up, which was announced by the meet organisers yesterday, will include Marie-Josée Talou from the Ivory Coast, Mujinga Kambundji from

Switzerland, and Americans Teahna Daniels and Twanisha Terry.

Thompson Herah will return to overseas competition after pulling out of the last Diamond League event in Birmingham, England, last Saturday because of a shoulder injury.

Asher-Smith won that race in 11.11 seconds, with Jackson following close behind in 11.12 seconds.

Thompson Herah, however, competed at the JAAA/SDF Jubilee Series in Kingston on the same day, in the 100m and 200m, clocking 10.94 and 22.55 seconds, respectively.

Richardson opened her season with a fourth-place finish, clocking 11.37 in the 100m, though training partner Justin Gatlin has said she has the potential to break the world record of 10.49, and run 10.3, because she has been clocking fast times in training.

Briana Williams ran an unofficial 10.91 seconds at the USATF Golden Games one month ago.
