Teen charged with murder

A17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and six counts of wounding with intent, following an incident in Seaview Gardens, Spanish Town Road, Kingston 11, on April 21.

The teen is charged with the murder of 40-year-old Marsha Saunders, a higgler of Friendly Avenue, Central Village, St Catherine, and the shooting and injuring of six other persons. The minor has also been charged with shooting with intent, being in possession of a prohibited weapon, being in possession of prohibited ammunition and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony. Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 3:30 p.m., the teen and another man armed with handguns boarded a bus along the mentioned roadway and opened gunfire hitting Saunders and six other persons.

The teen was subsequent­ly arrested and charged on Monday, after he was positively pointed out on an identifica­tion parade. His court date is being finalised.

In St Catherine, three 16-year-old boys are scheduled to face the court following the seizure of two imitation firearms in Monza, Portmore, on May 11. Reports from the Portmore police are that about 6:20 p.m., a team of officers conducted an operation in the area when the boys were seen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. They were accosted and searched and two imitation firearms were found in their possession­s. They were arrested and subsequent­ly charged with possession of a prohibited weapon following a questionan­d-answer interview in the presence of their attorneys. Their court dates are being finalised.
