‘Joy and happiness’

Kitson Town mom gets house for Mother’s Day

-

Amother of three, Olivea Ryan, was blessed with the gift of a new house in time for Mother’s Day. The unit, which was constructed in Kitson Town, St Catherine, was donated by FirstRock Foundation and the BossMom Network.

“Words cannot express the joy and happiness that I feel. This is a dream come true for me and my children,” Ryan said after being presented with the keys to the dwelling.

The unit was furnished with living and bedroom furniture, bedding and a four-seater dining table. The family also received kitchen utensils, food items, baby supplies, a playpen and school supplies for the children.

“I am grateful to the BossMom Network, FirstRock Foundation, Ford, and all the donors who made this possible. I no longer have to worry about living in a cramped and run-down space. With the new home, I can now focus on creating a home-based business that allows me to care for my children while earning an income,” said Ryan.

The BossMom Network’s principal, Michelle Gordon, noted that the organisation has been changing the lives of mothers in need through corporate and private partnerships since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic three years ago. BossMom Builds is the organisation’s charity arm that gives from mothers-in-business to mothers-in-need. The donation of the house to Ryan represents the sixth time that it has partnered with Food For The Poor housing programme to deliver shelter to a mother in need.

“It really is a beautiful feeling to be in a position to bless a mother,” Gordon said, nothing that the children, ages 10, seven and a six-week-old, will be in a more comfortable environment.

This is the second time that the FirstRock Foundation has partnered with the BossMom Network on a home-building venture. The build mission was supported by the motor company, Ford, and conglomerate GraceKennedy.

“We are thrilled to partner with the BossMom Network to make a difference in the lives of mothers in need. We believe in the power of collective action to create positive change in our communities, and this home donation is a testament to that belief,” said FirstRock director, Pauline Reid.

Gordon expressed her gratitude for the FirstRock Foundation’s steadfast support, stating, “The First Rock Foundation has proven to be an invaluable partner in our mission to support mothers in need. When I reached out to them for support this year, they did not hesitate to say yes. Their commitment to giving back to the community is truly admirable, and we are grateful for their support in making this BossMom Build mission a success,” she said.
