Fiancé demanding that I tattoo his name on my body

-

Dear Pastor,

My fiancé and I have been engaged since February. Everything was going great until he called me and told me the wedding is off if I didn’t agree to have a baby by him and tattoo his name on my body.

I thought he was joking, so I laughed. He said it wasn’t anything to laugh about and that he was giving me a deadline to get the tattoo done. I got the instructions from him last week and he told me that I had until Wednesday evening to get it done.

We talked in the past about having a baby, but not right now because we already have four children from previous relationships; he has two sons and I have two daughters. I asked him to give me more time because we have not moved in together yet. He is living in Jamaica and I am living in the United States of America. He is a great guy. We are happy with each other but I don’t think our relationship should depend on whether or not I get a tattoo. I tried to compromise with him so I told him that we can do the tattoos together. He said that he does not want tattoos. This doesn’t make any sense. We are not speaking to each other right now. I feel so stupid because I love him and don’t want to lose him. I’m starting to think about doing a small tattoo.

Pastor, should I just let this man go? Or should I try to talk him out of it, or do a tattoo that is not very visible?

Dear S.,

How can you tolerate this man? Why have you given him the impression that you have to give thought to his nonsense? And that you are so eager to get married, that he can make request of you even if these requests are unreasonable and stupid? Why should you put a tattoo on your body? And he has the audacity to tell you that he doesn’t want any on his body. This man is a joker and you should tell him that evidently he is looking for a fool to be his wife, and you are not a fool, so both of you should go your separate ways.

You know, my dear, there are some men who believe that men can ask women whatever they want and women must always say yes to their requests. But I want to tell you that such men belong to a different age and they are grossly disrespectful. If you are sleeping, I beg you, wake up. And I repeat, let this man go.

If this man gave you an engagement ring, return it. Bye-bye.

Pastor
