Andrea Derrett brings message of hope
Gospel recording artiste Andrea Derrett, aka Angie Pilgrim, is hoping to reach new audiences with her latest album, My Legacy.
The 10-track project features songs that were inspired by her life experiences.
“The death of my sister Diane Derrett in 2007 inspired me to write songs. My father, who was a lay preacher, the late Deacon Ronald Derrett, also inspired me to write. In the midst of trouble, we have hope and joy knowing that God is with us. He is in control, and He is sovereign. The message on this album is for there to be hope, joy, peace and answered prayers here on earth. Also knowing that this is not it, but we have, through Christ, eternal life,” said Derrett.
She said the message of the gospel is being heard by listeners but “There is a party crowd and a dancehall crowd that have been neglected. And I want to reach them with the message.”
My Legacy is a coproduction between
Derrett and
Gawain ‘Garnet’ Gibson for Garnetworks Productions. Derrett, who works as a clinical laboratory technologist in New York, said her journey in music began while residing in St Mary, from which she hails.
“I started singing at my local churches when I was a teenager. However, I have been seriously working on self-promotion since February 2013 when I released my first single titled Jesus Your Love,” said Derrett.
The Top Road, Jeffrey Town, native attended St Mary High School before moving on to study at the then named College of Arts, Science and Technology (now known as UTech) and later at the Michigan Technological University in the US. She worships at the Mount Calvary Faith Apostolic Church in Mount Vernon, New York.
Derrett expressed hope that those who are discouraged will be motivated after listening to My Legacy.
“I want to minister to the discouraged and those who are feeling empty and lost because of loss. I especially want to reach people who feel they cannot return to a lifestyle of worshipping and acknowledging God’s presence in daily living,” she said.
