Four held in firearm seizures

Police personnel in Westmorela­nd and St Catherine have arrested four persons in connection with the seizure of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition

In Westmorela­nd, Jahnoy Barron, a shop operator of Black Heath Road, and Simone Walker of Three Miles River, both 30, have been charged with possession of prohibited weapon, unauthoris­ed possession of ammunition, dealing in prohibited weapon and possession of a component part of a firearm.

Reports are that about 5:45 a.m., lawmen attached to the Savanna-laMar police went to Barron’s home on Black Heath Road, where a room occupied by the couple was searched. A 9 mm pistol along with a magazine containing 16 9mm rounds and an extended magazine containing five 9mm rounds were found inside a black board box. Both persons were subsequent­ly arrested and charged after a question-and-answer session with their attorney. Their court date is being finalised.

In the other incident, a CounterTer­rorism and Organised Crime-led operation in Portmore Villa, Gregory Park, St Catherine, resulted in the seizure of a Smith and Wesson Springfiel­d pistol with a magazine containing 15 9mm rounds, also on Tuesday. Damion Young, 34, otherwise called ‘Puppy’ and ‘Cuz’, and 31-yearold Kimone Williams, otherwise called ‘Mampy’, businesswo­man, both of Portmore Villa, have been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthoris­ed possession of ammunition.

Reports are that about 8 a.m., during the operation, the premises was searched and the weapon and ammunition were found in a clothes basket. Both persons were arrested and charged after a question-andanswer session. Their court date is being finalised.
