Rangers eyeing possible move for transfer-listed Reggae Boy

-

Scottish giants Rangers are believed to be among the clubs leading the race to sign red-hot Reggae Boy striker Jonson Clarke-Harris after Peterborough listed the 28-year-old as one of nine players to be off-loaded during the summer.

The Glasgow-based outfit are hunting for a frontman with Alfredo Morelos leaving and Reggae Boy Kemar Roofe struggling for fitness, having missed a large swathe of the just-concluded season with injury.

Rangers finished second, seven points behind champions Celtic.

Bristol Rovers, who sold Clarke-Harris to Peterborough two years ago for an initial fee of £1.25 million, are also believed to be entertaining the idea of luring the player back to the south-west, especially with manager Joey Barton a big supporter.

Clarke-Harris emerged as the jointleading scorer in League One, notching 27 goals in 48 games to be awarded the Golden Boot. He has been valued at about £5 million.

He was one of the main reasons behind Posh’s surge into the playoff semi-finals, also scoring in the first leg against Sheffield Wednesday as the hosts ran out 4-0 winners in a dominant performance at London Road.

However, Wednesday won the second leg 5-1 and then edged Peterborough 5-3 on penalties to reach the final.

Having failed to reach the final subsequently forced Peterborough into an assessment of their finances, causing them to cash in on Clarke-Harris.

“The club have made several players available for transfer, some in line with the club’s policy of listing players who are entering the final year of their contract,” Peterborough said in a statement.

Clarke-Harris made his international debut for Jamaica in May last year.
