Nigy Boy gets warm MoBay welcome

Proud family and friends on Thursday raced to greet visually-impaired dancehall artiste Nigel ‘Nigy Boy’ Hector with a warm welcome as he exited the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in his hometown of Montego Bay, St James.

Known for his single, the 23-year-old singer has created waves both locally and internationally with his smooth and charming vocals.

Nigy Boy’s aunt, Margaret Hill, expressed excitement at the number of people who turned up to support her ‘Peanut’.

“Words can’t express how I feel. We are overzealous. The whole family is behind him 100 per cent. I am having goosebumps just telling you about Peanut. We have all taken care of him and we are so proud,” said Hill.

Hill pointed to a group of women who she said have also been supporting Nigy Boy since he was a child.

Market and the Fantasy Craft Market. They all took care of him too. They all love him and they’ve known him since he was a baby,” she said.

As fans gathered to await the arrival of Nigy Boy, his uncle, Alvin Hill, expressed gratitude to the team at MBJ Airports Limited for coordinating Thursday’s special welcome.

“I am happy. I am elated to see the kind of love that he is getting from Montego Bay and I appreciate that they are here to welcome him today,” he said.

Alvin described his nephew as an overachiever who has always been full of life and love. “He has

been singing from birth. He was one of the winners in the TVJ’s All Together Sing competition for Meadowbrook High School, back in the day. He has also excelled in academics,” Alvin said.

For his part, Nigy Boy told journalists that his journey to the island will see him performing at Margaritaville in Ocho Rios and Jungle Jouvert in Montego Bay this weekend. “It is a pleasure to be back. I’m honoured that all these distinguished guests in the audience took the time out of their busy schedules to come to welcome us back on the soil. MoBay, my place, so mi represents every time,” said Nigy Boy.

“I believe in never forgetting where you come from and as a testament to those words, I found

it fitting that everything would come full circle and I would be allowed the privilege to perform in

my hometown and just revel with the people in excitement as music is a powerful thing,” said Nigy Boy.
