Waterhouse secured the last play-off spot in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after a 1-0 win over Harbour View at the Drewsland Mini-stadium yesterday.

Javane Bryan scored the game’s only goal in the 69th minute.

Waterhouse advanced on difference ahead of Montego Bay United, who defeated Tivoli Gardens 2-1 to finish level on 43 points.

Both teams had good chances in the first half, with Andre Fagan coming closest for Harbour View with a header against the post.

Bryan missed a couple of chances at the start of the second half and again in the 65th minute, however, he found the crucial goal minutes later when Harbour View blundered in defence and Bryan fired home from 12 yards.

Waterhouse’s defence kept things tight at the back to see out the game.

“We should have performed better, but the occasion may have gotten the better of us. We are in the playoffs and grateful,” said Waterhouse assistant coach Damion Gordon.

Harbour View finished a disappointing 12th in the points standing, but coach Ludlow Bernard was pleased with yesterday’s effort.

“We gave a good account of ourselves but were very disappointed with how we conceded. That summed up our season,” Bernard stated.

Mount Pleasant topped the league with 59 points, followed by Cavalier with 54, who take the other automatic semifinal spot. Tivoli with 51, Portmore with 49, Arnett with 49 and Waterhouse with 43, complete the top six.

In the quarter-finals, Tivoli will play Waterhouse and Portmore face Arnett Gardens.

This season’s two promoted teams, Lime Hall and Treasure Beach, have been relegated.
