And camaraderie at 30+ Fashion Show
The atmosphere was electric as the curtain closed on the inaugural 30+ Fashion Show, Expo and After Party, staged in Portmore, St Catherine, on April 27.
Backstage, a sense of sister unity filled the air as models, designers, and organisers embraced and congratulated each other on a job well done. The excitement and pride of showcasing their talents and passion projects was palpable, and the collective energy was infectious. As they exchanged stories, hugs, and words of encouragement, it was clear that this event had not only celebrated fashion, but also forged unbreakable bonds among the women involved. The sense of community and support was a testament to the power of female collaboration and the magic that happens when women come together to uplift and empower each other. The expo, which was staged earlier in the day, also in Portmore, opened opportunities for small businesses, as they enjoyed increased visibility, networking opportunities, and the commitment of sponsors.
Chief event organiser Stephanie Elliott Gunning expressed pride in the outcome of the event and promises that the next staging, scheduled for later this year, is expected to showcase more designers. It is expected that the staging will have a mix of models from across Jamaica.
“This particular event has global reach, as we have partnered with Scandinavian International Fashion CEO Sonja Anderssen to continue on the work we started in 2019 to recruit models and designers from Jamaica and the Caribbean to participate in their show in Sweden annually,” said Elliott Gunning.
“We are harping on the successful staging of this event, and in the process of seeking sponsors to kick off our reality series, which pretty much will take its form from many of the activities in this show,” she said.
