Ballet
William Forsythe’s masterpiece, In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, is being brought to the stage for the first time in Kazakhstan. The ballet combines gravity-defying leaps with shifting symmetries and an off-centre alignment, dramatically performed with incredible mastery by the dancers. William Forsythe is one of greatest avantgarde choreographers of our time. His ballet is stripped of ornament and the persistent flow of movement takes the human body to the edge of what it can achieve. The evening programme will also include a legendary performance of the 20th century Serenade by George Balanchine in the first part, and the stylish ballet Contrasts, choreographed by Ruben Terranova, in the third.
When & Where: 4-5 November, Astana Ballet, Astana.
