One of my favourite cities, that will remain in my memory forever, is Delft. It was my first trip to Europe, which is probably why I fell in love with it. Delft is small, homely and compact, with a history that charts the revival of the whole country. Canals, historical monuments from the 16th to 17th centuries, neat houses and friendly residents, all this creates a romantic environment. No wonder it is called an open-air museum. Although the city is small, it is also known as a city of students and it is home to several campuses. The main point of interest is the market square with the church De Nieuwe Kerk built in the 14th century. Inside the church you get goosebumps as you take in the beautiful work created by the artisans of that period. The church houses the burial vault of the House of Orange; the entire royal family is underneath. So many warm memories are related to this city that I want to go back again.
