Cappadocia

I would also like to invite you further inland, to Cappadocia in the heart of the country, a region steeped in history and with incredible landscapes.

Many of you may already have seen glorious photographs of multi-coloured balloons over scenic volcanic rocks, if so it may be time to go and see it for yourself. The first settlements in this area were recorded in the 6th century BC. Many centuries ago entire underground cities, many-storeyed in parts, flourished here. Ancient temples, monasteries, small villages and even hotels are all located underground, and it is astonishing how life has been established here for such a long time. In summer, when the exhausting heat reigns in the flat plains of Cappadocia, you will appreciate the wisdom of hiding in underground passageways. Accommodation starts at 5 euro per night for two people; for 15-20 euro you can expect quite a high level of comfort, so for a modest price you can find yourself in an exotic hotel inside the ancient caves like a hero from ancient legends.

We can’t mention Cappadocia without reference to the hot air balloon festival, when hundreds of different balloons soar up in the sky at sunset in an astonishing display of colour. It usually takes place in April or May, the dates vary each year. This is the busiest season with higher prices and bigger crowds. Ballooning will cost between 120-150 euro an hour for a flight that you will never forget. You can get to Cappadocia from Istanbul by plane or bus. здесь живут и процветают целые подземные города, нередко многоэтажные. Нельзя, говоря о Каппадокии, не упомянуть о фестивале воздушных шаров, когда сотни разноцветных летающих конструкций взмывают в небо на закате, являя собой зрелище, мало с чем сравнимое. Проходит он обычно в апреле – мае, даты год от года могут меняться. Разумеется, это самый популярный сезон, когда и цены на все выше, и народу больше. Прогулка на таком воздушном шаре тоже удовольствие не из дешевых — 120–150 евро за час полета. Но его, справедливости ради, вы не забудете никогда.

Добраться до Каппадокии можно из Стамбула — самолетом или автобусом.
