Blessed Bali

-

A great number of pilgrims come to Bali, which has over 20,000 temples, some of which are open to the public. Every home has its own domestic temple, in addition to the municipal, village and tribal ones. The most interesting Hindu temple is Tirta Empul, built over a source of holy and healing waters. This is a popular destination for all those looking for health, happiness, good luck and for dreams to come true. To achieve this, you must not neglect to bring an offering to the gods. Dress in a swimming sarong (you can bring your own or buy one here), then light a stick of incense, inhale its smoke three times and then ask the gods for your heart’s desire. Afterwards you should wash and follow the purification rites before approaching the pool fed by the holy springs and put your head under the water spouts. Take your time and ask the attendants about the purpose of each pool, as there are pools to purify your karma, release stress, establish harmony with the world (with a relative or loved ones), remove a curse or open chakras. It is always crowded here but the line moves quite swiftly. Another unusual temple is Tanah Lot, protected by UNESCO and one of Bali’s nine sacred temples. Located on a small stone island it appears to hover above the water. Thousands of people come to see this amazing place, but one of the star attractions is the roaring surf that crashes against the shore and drenches visitors. You are not permitted to enter the temple, but you can receive a blessing by leaving gifts.
