When I was offered the chance to go to Greece I jumped at it. I imagined low white houses with blue roofs and coming within touching distance of Greek mythology. On my way to the hotel I noticed that the Cretan landscape was much like Kazakhstan, except that we don’t have the sea. We stayed at an agritourism hotel and ate fresh vegetables from the kitchen garden. On one guided tour we were taken to a tavern where the food was delicious; I remember most of all an outstanding dish made of squash. I think we have many things in common with the Greeks: smiles, hospitality and great-heartedness. I will make sure that I come back to Crete one day, to walk its narrow streets, talk to kindhearted residents, take wonderful photographs and once more plunge into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
