I spent my student years in the city of Houston. Its most recognisable landmark is the downtown skyscraper district, and it has the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Houston Symphony and Alley Theatre. It also has an entertainment complex called Bayou Place with numerous restaurants, cinemas, squares and entertainment venues. Texas is famous for its cowboy tradition and you can watch a classic rodeo at the Astrodome stadium. Houston is often called Space City as there is a NASA space centre that welcomes a huge number of visitors every day. As Houston is on the border of Mexico you can get excellent Mexican food here, such as at the Vida Loca Mexican Bar and Grill, and then have a leisurely swim in the Gulf of Mexico (85 kilometres from Houston).
