Tuk-tuk startup Halan to expand into Ethiopia

EGYPTIAN TUK-TUK hailing startup Halan has announced plans to enter the Ethiopian market.

Speaking to Reuters, its Founder and CEO Mounir Nakhla said that the company completes several million rides per month, with half a million being for food deliveries.

Operating through an app like Uber, Halan operates in around 20 cities across Egypt and Sudan, partnering with the likes of McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut.

It currently has around 10,000 active drivers per month, the firm looking to tap further into what could be a lucrative market – Egypt, for example, has 700,000 tuk-tuks on its streets.
