TRANSNET SIGNS R3 BILLION EXPORT DEAL WITH KALAGADI MANGANESE

-

SOUTH AFRICA’S state-owned freight operator Transnet has agreed to export a million tonnes of manganese a year in a deal worth R3 billion ($203 million) with miner Kalagadi Manganese.

The country is blessed with the mineral, holding about 75 percent of the world’s supply.

Kalagadi’s manganese resources are based in the Northern Cape province, with Transnet acting as export partner until the contract expires in 2022.

The mining firm wants to increase production to four million tonnes per annum by the time the agreement ends.
