Zimbabwe eyes massive diamond production increase by 2023

-

MINERAL-RICH ZIMBABWE wants to more than treble diamond production by 2023.

Ministers have set an annual output goal of 11 million carats, a figure that is markedly up from the 3.2 million carats produced in 2018 and expected to earn the country $12 billion annually.

Gold is currently the nation’s largest single export, Zimbabwe eager to attract investors who are said to be concerned about dollar shortages.

The country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promised more favourable investment conditions as part of a bid to become open for business.
