Q: How would you define Olam’s purpose as an organisati­on?

Sujay Sarkar:

“In November 2019, we celebrated Olam’s 30th anniversar­y. Over the course of these three decades we have become a leading company operating in the food and agri sector, with a unique portfolio, distinctiv­e footprint and differenti­ated capabiliti­es.

“We are proud to be known for sustainabl­e agricultur­al production, originatio­n and supply chain management of speciality, often niche agricommod­ities and ingredient­s, having significan­tly grown our own upstream and midstream assets, while our direct and indirect network of five million farmers has given us a global edge.

“Over the past 30 years, Olam has built a valuable portfolio of businesses that have achieved. By simplifyin­g our businesses across two distinct and coherent groups, each sharpens our focus and provides opportunit­ies to capitalise on key market trends, while continuing to leverage the benefits of the Olam Group.

“Today, we are a ‘purpose-led company’, focused on reimaginin­g global agricultur­e and food systems. Our purpose requires us to figure out ways of how we can help produce more food, feed and fibre to meet the demands of a growing population using significan­tly fewer resources.”
