VENETIA MINE

Venetia Mine, based in Limpopo, is owned by De Beers, the largest diamond producer in the world. Basil Read Mining has been contracted on the project since 2008.

The mine’s original requirement was drilling and blasted spillage to be loaded and dumped at a central point and re-handled by their larger equipment to the mine dump.

“They have been transitioning to underground mining and we were supporting them in doing some open pit mining,” the CEO explains.

“It has gone on to such an extent that they don’t trust any other mining contractor and want to release more of that open pit mining to us as they make the transition to underground, and they are also considering allowing us to maintain some of their bigger machinery. We are currently doing assessments for them to take on a maintenance contract on their behalf for the remaining open pit machinery.”
