Q: HOW DOES SOLOMONS CONTRIBUTE TO ST HELENA?
MANDY PETERS: “The company makes a significant contribution to St Helena, supporting an allisland workforce and enabling food security on the island along with other importers, wholesalers, retailers and local producers. We provide a significant market for the goods and services of other local businesses and individuals, last year making payments of £639,485 to other local businesses and individuals.
“We also facilitate land leases and licences to occupy for 64 local businesses or individuals enabling them to develop local production in vegetables and livestock on company lands through our Prosperity through Partnership approach.
“Over the years we have contributed considerably to the built heritage of St Helena through sensitive refurbishment of our historic properties. We have also contributed directly to local charities and non-governmental organisations through our modest sponsorship and donations programme. We take our corporate social responsibility seriously with our company Purpose being ‘Serving our customers through sustainable business for the benefit of our company and island’.”
