RICHARD VAN DEN BARG

Richard van den Barg has been interested in construction and engineering from a young age, joining Group Five as a trainee in 1982.

“For the first few years of my career I spent time on site in various parts of South Africa, and eventually returned to Head Office to manage the estimating and proposals department. I was appointed a Director in 1994,” he explains.

In general, van den Barg was involved in the front-end of the business, including operational support, marketing, business development, estimating, tendering and contract negotiation.

“I took a sabbatical from Group Five for five years,” he continues, “during which time I managed a construction company based in Ghana, and then spent three years with another major listed construction group in South Africa. I re-joined Group Five in 2016, and moved across to T3 Projects as a Director and shareholder in 2019.”
