Kenya bags four ma­jor in­ter­na­tional golf­ing awards

Kenya, last week­end bagged four ma­jor golf­ing hon­ours dur­ing the an­nual World Golf Awards cer­e­mony at La Manga Spain, es­tab­lish­ing it­self firmly as a golf tourism des­ti­na­tion on the world map.

The Great Rift Val­ley Lodge and Golf Re­sort in Naivasha won two prizes, the Best Golf Ho­tel in Africa and that of be­ing the Best Golf Ho­tel in Kenya.

The Pro­fes­sional Golfers As­so­ci­a­tion (PGA) cer­ti­fied Baobab Course at Vipingo Ridge in Kil­ifi County was mean­while cho­sen as the Best Golf Course for the Year 2017.

Tobs Kenya Golf Sa­faris, a travel and events firm in the coun­try, won the Best Golf Tour Op­er­a­tor award for the third time in a row.

Speak­ing about the awards, Tobs Kenya Golf Sa­faris chair­man and a for­mer di­rec­tor of Muthaiga Golf Club, Tobs Co­hen, said he was ex­cited about Kenya win­ning four awards.

He said: “Since we started our op­er­a­tions in 1991, our ob­jec­tive has al­ways been to pro­mote Kenya as a world class golf des­ti­na­tion.

“This Award is an en­cour­age­ment to con­tinue in our quest to grow Kenya’s po­ten­tial to at­tract many golf­ing tourists.” Co­hen said East Africa con­tin­ued to grow as a golf tourism des­ti­na­tion with sev­eral new 18-hole cham­pi­onship golf cour­ses open­ing.
