What is your opinion on the Treasury CS’S proposal to tax big earners up to 35pc?

Daily Nation (Kenya) - - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR -

BONNY MUTAI: That is a good move. It will help to bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots. KATO FRED: He is right. Some top earners do not contribute a single cent to national development. ROBERT MONGARE GESORA: Taxing big earners is not an issue; first manage the available resources. JOSEPH NDUGUYA: The tax band has very few individuals and thus insufficient. Embark on austerity measures to reduce wastage of public funds.

CALVIN QUEENS: I welcome the idea. Those earning more should boost our national expenditure.

PHILIP MWANGI: The government seems desperate for funds due to overspending and huge debts.

JEFF CHEPKWONY: It is long overdue, but the big question is: Will the cash be properly utilised? ABASS BUSKUT: I think the minister is preaching water and drinking wine. He should scrutinise money siphoned through unscrupulous channels. CHARLES IMBANDU: Maybe next year they will impose the same tax on low-income earners. If corruption is controlled, we will not need any increment. DIANA D’SOUZA: This is absolutely ridiculous since we are getting absolutely no services. Look at the deteriorated state of Nairobi!
