Healthcare unionists plead for more security for colleagues
The leaders of healthcare professionals’ unions have asked the government to provide security for their members working at Tharaka Sub-county Hospital, who have been receiving threats following the death of a snakebite victim.
Addressing the press in Chuka town, the unionists, led by the KNUN Chairman Fabian Marigu and KMPDU branch secretary John Tatua, said the lives of their members were in danger. Mr Marigu said two health officers had already recorded statements at Marimanti Police Station and sought additional security.
Mr Marigu said the healthcare officers have been accused of laxity in handling a 12-year-old girl, Faith Makena, who was rushed to the facility but died almost 24 hours later while receiving treatment.
