-

Belgian opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova faces 12 years in prison on accusations of attempting to withdraw the authoritarian regime led by President Alexander Lukashenko. Her trial comes after months of crackdown in Belarus. Kolesnikova has been imprisoned since September 2020, a month after the disputed polls in Belarus that led to nationwide protests calling for the resignation of the then newly elected President Alexander Lukashenko, who has been described as Europe’s last dictator.
