Ac­cord­ing to a 2017 Joint Wa­ter and En­vi­ron­ment Sec­tor Re­view Re­port, the tea in­dus­try con­sumes about 71,000 tonnes of wood since pro­cess­ing of one kilo­gramme of tea re­quires about 1.5kg of wood. Lime pro­duc­tion, con­sumes 270,000 tonnes of wood and 75 tonnes of char­coal an­nu­ally. The to­bacco in­dus­try con­sumes 200,000 tonnes of wood while sugar jag­geries eat up 500 tonnes of wood and 2,000 tonnes of bagasse.
