Magufuli urges PCCB to clean house

The East African - - OUTLOOK -

The News: President John Magufuli wants corrupt people within the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau purged before the agency extends the war on corruption to other organisations.

The Lowdown: Speaking at the swearing in of the agency's new director general in Diwani Athumani, President Magufuli said members of the bureau's staff who were tainted by corruption must go. He said most Tanzanians faced a lot of social difficulties and injustices whose main causes were attributable to corruption. Mr Diwani's appointment as the new PCCB chief, to replace Valentino Mlowola, has been widely acknowledged as the start of a new chapter in the Magufuli administration's efforts to get rid of corruption as one of the most serious social vices in the country. He noted that an in-house-cleaning exercise within the agency itself was necessary in developing public confidence in the war against corruption.
