Igad leaders meet over conflicts
East African experts in conflict resolution and prevention have urged regional countries to develop a "Regional Reconciliation Framework and Dialogue Index" to support conflict prevention and settlement efforts.
The experts, meeting under the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) Mediation Support Unit (MSU) platform over the past few days in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, stressed the importance of engaging the youth, enhancing gender responsive dialogue and a faith-based approach to dialogue and reconciliation to address such issues as human rights, justice, and spiritual healing. The high-level meeting also stressed that building regional normative capacity on mediation and strengthen capacities of national institutions in member states will help in conflic prevention. The need for dialogue and reconciliation for conflict prevention and transformation, geopolitics context in the IGAD region, were also discussed.
