In Uganda, like many African coun­tries, HIV dis­pro­por­tion­ally af­fects women and girls. Of the 1.2 mil­lion peo­ple liv­ing with HIV/AIDS, 738,588 are women, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est Uganda Pop­u­la­tion-based HIV Im­pact As­sess­ment re­port. The pic­ture is sim­i­lar glob­ally where 18.6 mil­lion, of the 36.7 mil­lion peo­ple liv­ing with HIV are women, ac­cord­ing to the United Nations Joint Pro­gramme on HIV/ Aids.
