Parents’ call for safety measures to end school fires
The National Parents’ Association wants the government to implement effective safety measures to stop increasing fire incidents in schools.
Association chairman Nicholas Maiyo yesterday said the government has been coming up with new measures after incidents of fire are reported in schools, but nothing is implemented.
He said the association is saddened by the death of eight students on Saturday in a dormitory fire at Moi Girls’ High School, Nairobi.
“We send our condolences to the families that lost their children and wish quick recovery to those students in hospital,” Maiyo said.
The parents want swift investigations conducted into the fire incident at Moi Girls’. Maiyo said Education CS Fred Matiang’i should call an urgent stakeholders’ meeting to review safety measures in schools countrywide.
