World’s 1st lpg-fueled carrier is manufactured by daewoo
Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said yesterday it has developed the world’s first liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fueled carrier. The company said it has been working on the ship with four partners, including its affiliate Daewoo Shipbuilding Engineering Company (DSEC), since March and has obtained a basic approval for it from its Norwegian ordering company, Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
The approval verifies that the design of the vessel’s foundation is valid, a process the company must go through in order to sell the ship. The ship is 182 meters (597.1 feet) long and 29.6 meters wide with a tank that can carry 39,000 cubic meters (8.6 million gal- lons) of gas. The company said it uses a mixture of propane and butane.
