FC Seoul, Bluewings to clash in final game

-

Two South Korean football rivals will clash in their last match of the 2016 season this weekend with a cup trophy at stake.

FC Seoul and Suwon Samsung Bluewings will play their second leg of the Korean Football Association (FA) Cup final at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Saturday. This is their fifth and last meeting this year.

The showdown between Seoul and Suwon is dubbed the “Super Match” here for their intense rivalry. The two clubs in the top flight K League Classic are tied at one win, two draws and one loss in their head-to-head record this season.

Suwon, however, are one step ahead of Seoul when it comes to the FA Cup final after they earned a 2-1 victory in the first leg at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, some 46 kilometers south of the capital, on Sunday.

This means a draw will be enough for Suwon to clinch their fourth FA Cup title and their first since 2010.

Suwon are eager to beat Seoul because the FA Cup champions can earn a spot at the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.
