New history textbook fuels ideological dispute
이념논란으로번진새국정역사교과서
The Ministry of Education unveiled the draft of a controversial stateauthored history textbook for middle and high schools, Monday, drawing protests from progressive historians and civic groups.
교육부가월요일논란이되는중고등학교용국정 역사 교과서 검토본을 공개한 가운데진보 역사학자 및시민 단체로부터 반발을사고있다.
It revealed the “right-leaning” textbook about one year after the conservative Park Geun-hye administration announced the plan.
교육부는 박근혜 정부가 계획을 발표한지약 1년 만에‘우편향’국정 역사 교과서를공개했다.
The book allegedly contains disputed definitions and interpretations of historical events skewed in favor of conservatives.
이국정역사 교과서는 보수세력을 지지하면서 역사적 사건들에 대해 왜곡된 해석과 논란이 될수 있는 의미를 담고 있는 것으로알려졌다.
The ministry had originally planned to collect public opinion until December and send it for printing in January for publication before the spring semester beginning in March.
당초 교육부는 12월까지 의견 수렴을 통해내년 3월 봄학기가시작되기전인 1월에출판을위한인쇄에들어가기계획했었다. “The ministry is seeking ways to introduce the textbooks at schools by minimizing confusion,” Education
Minister Lee Joon-sik said at a briefing at the Seoul Government Complex.
이준식 교육부장관은 정부서울청사에서가진 브리핑에서“교육부는 논란을 최소화해국정 역사 교과서를 도입하는 방안을 모색하고있다”고 말했다.
However, the fact that the minister did not confirm the definitive introduction of the textbook in March, is seen as a means of leaving room for its withdrawal depending on public opinion.
하지만교육부가내년 3월 최종적으로도입하겠다는 발표를 하지 않았다는 사실은여론 향배에 따라 이를 철회할 여지를 남겨둔것으로해석이가능하다.
