World’s heaviest man undergoes surgery
세상에서가장무거운남성수술대에올라
GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AFP) ― The world’s heaviest man, who at one point weighed almost 600 kilograms (1,300 pounds), has undergone successful gastric bypass surgery, his doctors in Mexico said.
과달라하라, 멕시코 (AFP) ―한때 몸무게가거의 600킬로그램(1,300파운드)에달했을 만큼, 세상에서가장무거운남성이위우회술을 성공적으로받았다고멕시코의의료진이밝혔다.
The procedure on Juan Pedro Franco is intended to reduce his weight by half, and is expected to be followed up with another operation, his surgeon Jose Castaneda said Tuesday.
화요일 후안 페드로 프랑코의 외과 담당의사인 호세 까스따네다는 그가 받은 수술이 몸무게를 절반으로 줄이기 위한 것이었으며또한번의 수술이 예정되어 있다고 말했다.
“The surgery was quite successful. But now we have to wait and see how he responds to the (systemic) change. Let’s hope everything goes well,” Castaneda said.
까스따네다는“수술은 성공적이었다. 다만 이제는 그가 (수술적) 변화를 어떻게 받아들이느냐를 지켜봐야 한다. 모든 일이 잘되길빌어달라”고전했다.
The procedure has left the patient “quite delicate”, and he is being closely monitored, Castaneda said.
이 수술은 환자를‘아주 허약한’상태로만들었으며 그는 현재 철저한 관리 하에있다고까스따네다는밝혔다.
Franco, who at his peak tipped the scales at 595 kilograms, was told that in order to be eligible for surgery, he had to lose a large amount of his initial bulk. He also had to get his diabetes and blood pressure under control.
가장 무거울 때의 체중이 595kg까지 나갔던 프랑코는 수술을 받을 만한 상태가되 려면 원래 덩치에서 상당한 무게를 빼야한다는주의를 들었다. 또한당뇨와혈압도조절해야만했다.
The operation was given the green light when doctors said they were pleased with his steady progress and motivation, which marked a change for Franco, who had spent years in bed.
의료진이프랑코가보이는꾸준한진척과의욕이 만족스러운 수준이라고 밝히는 등수술 상황에는 청신호가 켜졌다. 몇 년간을침대에서 보낸 프랑코에게는 의미 있는 변화다.
When the second procedure is done, likely in November, Franco’s stomach size will be reduced and his intestines modified.
11월로 예정된 2차 수술이 끝나고 나면프랑코의 복부 사이즈는 줄어들고 장 또한달라지게될것이다.
Most importantly, the patient has to progress on the psychological and nutritional fronts. “If that does not happen, the entire thing will fail,” Castaneda warned.
무엇보다도중요한것은환자가심리학적으로그리고 영양학적으로도 나아져야한다는 것이다.“그게 안된다면모든노력이수포로 돌아갈 것”이라고 까스따네다는 경고했다.
