Robby and Mike walk down the stairs. Mike debriefs him, a little manic, not affected by what he’s picked up.

마이크와 로비와 계단을 내려간다. 마이크가흥분한채로취재내용을 보고한다. 주위소음은귀에들리지도않는다.

MIKE: He said they all target the same kinda kid. Low income families, absentee fathers, broken homes...

마이크: 이런 신부들은 비슷한 종류의 아이들만노린다는거예요.저소득층이고아빠가없거나가정이붕괴했고… .

They step into the press room. It’s early. The presses are relatively quiet.

두 사람은 인쇄실 안으로 들어간다. 이른시간이라 인쇄기 소리가 크게 거슬리지 않는다.

MIKE: So a guy like Geoghan goes after boys not because he prefers them, but because they have more shame. Less likely to talk. These guys are predators, Robby. I talked to Sipe. (watching his note) He said he’s seen dozens of them in the sixties in Seton. He called it a “phenomenon.”

마이크: 게이건 같은 신부들이 남자 아이들을 추행하는 건 취향이라기보다는 그런애들이더수치스러워하고 남들한테얘기를안 해서예요. 이사람들은먹이를찾는포식자예요. 사이프가 그러는데 (취재 노트를보며) 60년대에 시튼에서 그런 신부들을 수십명 봤대요. 일종의‘현상’이라고 표현하더라고요.

MIKE: He did, but the Church made a huge effort to discredit him. Smear campaigns, public statements by prominent bishops. It’s just like Saviano said. And Garabedian.

마이크: 폭로했어요. 그런데 교회에서 그의 평판을 떨어뜨리려고 온갖 방법을 동원했죠. 언론을통해인신 공격했고, 이름있는주교들이 공개 성명을 냈어요. 필 사비아노가한 말과 정확히 일치해요. 개러비디언도그렇고요.
