Environmental pollution and sustainable development
<Environmental pollution> <
Ever since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, human beings have been seriously contaminating the environment. The air, land, and water are being seriously damaged by toxic chemicals and waste. Such chemicals also affect the flora and
fauna of the earth.
Their habitats are destroyed and devastated and the pollution can also result in serious diseases and even birth defects.
We’ve only come to realize relatively recently the seriousness of the problem and have begun to make efforts towards sustainable development.
If we couldn’t find a solution for contaminated environments, our next generations wouldn’t be able to continue to live on earth.
<Sustainable development> <
Sustainable development means continuing to develop while simultaneously protecting the planet.
In order to protect nature, we should minimize environmental pollution. We should also prevent the overuse of natural resources. Such efforts should be backed up by legal devices.
For example, the government could impose heavy taxes on plants that operate without proper filtration and emit a lot of pollution.
By contrast, tax reduction benefits could be given to more eco-friendly businesses. At the international level, world-wide organizations, such as the UN, could draft international
treaties suggesting environmental actions that could be taken by all nations.
