Nakseonjae in Changdeok Palace was built by Heonjong, the 24th king of the Joseon, in 1847 for a royal concubine named Lady Kim.창덕궁에있는 낙선재(사진)는 조선 24대 임금 헌종이 후궁 경빈 김씨를 위해1847년에 지었어요.

She became one of the king’s concubines after failing in being chosen as the second queen. King Heonjong had Lady Kim stay here and treated her with respect like a queen.

헌종은 계비 간택에서 탈락한 경빈 김씨를 후궁으로 맞아들여 이곳에 머물게하면서 왕비와 다름없는 대접을 했다고합니다.

Nakseonjae is a complex of three buildings. The buildings include the king’s living quarters and library, a villa for his concubine Lady Kim, Gyeongbin, and a residence for the Queen Mother.

낙선재는 세 개의 건물의 복합체입니다.낙선재는왕의처소와서­재,그의후궁인 김씨를 위한 건물, 그리고 대왕대비를위한건물로­이루어져있습니다.

The king expressed his love of art and Lady Kim in these buildings.

헌종은 이 건물들을 통해 그의 예술에대한사랑과후궁­김씨를위한사랑을표현­했습니다.

Seokbokheo­n was intended for the son that the king hoped to have, but

King Heonjong never had a son.

석복헌은헌종이아들을­기원하는마음으로 만들었으나, 끝내 아들을 두지는 못했습니다.

However, he passed away only two years after he got Lady Kim, and it became the place where the queen or concubines who lost the king stayed.

그러나 헌종은 경빈 김씨를 맞아 들인지2년만에승하하­였어요.이후에는국상을당한왕­후와후궁들이거처하였­어요.

This place also has many stories related to the last royal family of Joseon.

이곳은 또한 조선의 마지막 왕실 가족과 관련하여 여러 가지 이야기들이 전해오는곳입니다.

The last Empress of the Korean Empire faced the Japanese annexation, as well as the Korean War here. The last crown prince married a Japanese princess and came back with his wife and lived here.

대한제국의 마지막 황후가 한일병합과한국전쟁을 겪은 곳이고 일본인 공주와결혼한 마지막 황태자가 그의 부인과 함께돌아와이곳에서살­았지요.

The last crown prince of the Korea Empire, King Yeongchin, was born as the seventh son of King Gojong.대한제국의마지막황태­자영친왕은고종의일곱­번째아들로태어났어요.

He was invested as the crown prince in 1907, but he was forced to study abroad in Japan. 1907년 황태자에책봉되지만일­본으로강제유학을떠나­지요.

In 1920, he was forced to marry a Japanese princess and got a thorough Japanese-style education.

1920년 일본왕족의딸과정략결­혼을하고철저한일본식­교육을받습니다.

The Japanese wanted to disconnect the royal family of Joseon, so they forced the crown prince to marry a Japanese princess who was found not to be able to have babies when she was examined by a Japanese doctor. But, they could have a son.

일본은 조선 왕조의 대가 끊어지기를바랐습니다. 그래서 왕세자를 아이를 낳을수없다고진단을받­은일본공주와결혼을 시켰습니다. 그러나 그들은 아들을낳았어요.

He couldn’t come back even after the independen­ce of Korea in 1945. He finally came back to Korea in 1963 and passed away in 1970.그는 1945년 광복후에도귀국하지못­하다가 마침내 1963년 귀국하였으나1970­년에 돌아가셨어요.
