-

Changgyeonggung Palace was where the royal family lived. For this reason, it has many stories about the royal family, especially the women of the royal family.

Queen Inhyeon and Lady Jang, wives of King Sukjong, who was the 19th king of Joseon, lived in Changgyeonggung Palace.

Lady Jang experienced a life of extreme ups and downs.

Although she was born into the middle class, she became Queen.

She was eventually put to death after cursing Queen Inhyeon in an effort to regain her former position as Queen.

There is also a story of King Yeongjo, 21st king of Joseon, and his son, Crown Prince Sado.

King Yeongjo was a good king who made a lot of good policies for the people but he was not a good father to his son.

Unfortunately, he put his son into a rice chest and killed him.

<The death of Crown Prince Sado> <

“Father, please save me.”

Crown Prince Sado pleaded with his father King Youngjo for mercy before getting into the rice chest.

His 10-year-old son (who would become King Jeongjo later) also cried to his grandfather.

“Please save my father.”

“Who brought him? Take him right now.”

An officer took him away.

Sado went into the rice chest. King Youngjo closed it and locked it by himself. Eight days later, Sado finally died of starvation by being confined in the rice chest.
