Sejong Hall reopens as arts complex
The Sejong Convention Hall and affiliate facilities will be reopening after a four-month renovation Nov. 7, according to the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts (SCPA).
The Sejong Hall had been used for weddings and children’s first birthday celebrations but there had been criticism that the purpose didn’t match those of an arts center. Management decided to renew the hall and operate it directly instead of handing over use to an outside contractor, which it had until now.
The venue encompassing 1,620 square meters for the convention hall and 717 square meters for affiliate facilities will become a Cultural Arts Complex.
The convention hall will be used flexibly for different purposes — it can be divided into three halls depending on the size of the event. Music and lighting facilities have also been enhanced.
Moreover, the separated facilities such as the grand theater, art exhibition hall and the Sejong Hall lobby will be connected to improve the flow of human traffic.
Food and events will also be managed by the SCPA in collaboration with Sejong Hotel.
“The Sejong Hall will amalgamate the arts center’s management know-how with hotel service to become Seoul’s major MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Convention, Exhibition) venue,” said Lee Sung-yeop, CEO of the SCPA.
